It’s publication day for Book No. 2, my health-and-fitness memoir

Like it’s running a marathon, my health-and-fitness memoir is on sale.

I ran my first (and only) marathon in 2006, about five months after I started a regular running routine. That I finished that marathon in six hours, 23 seconds (gotta mention the 23 seconds) speaks to my approach: Life is not a sprint.

So it is with my second book. My first book, The Percussionist’s Wife: A Memoir of Sex, Crime & Betrayal, came out almost three years ago. I wrote a second, as-yet-unpublished manuscript since then. But the seed for my second book — out today — was planted:

While working on a manuscript based on the diaries from my teenage years growing up in Central Minnesota, I ran across several references to Your 14-Day Total Shape-Up Plan, a book published by Scholastic Book Services. As a 40-something paging through the angst of my teenage years, this idea of shaping up in fourteen days inspired me anew. So I attempted a new shape-up plan. This time, I spread it out over twenty-one days (we’re older now—everything takes longer).

And thus was born How to Look Hot & Feel Amazing in Your 40s: The 21-Day Age-Defying Diet, Exercise & Everything Makeover Plan.

I wrote this book for women like me — 40-somethings going through perimenopause who are struggling with muffin tops, aches and pains, and indelible wrinkles. There is hope! You are look and feel better in only 21 days! Not 40-something? If you’re in your 30s, you might not need to use wrinkle cream or color your hair, but many of the ideas in this book can make you look hotter and feel more amazing. Are you 50? Or 60? This book motivated my 73-year-old mother, so I’m sure there’s something here for you, too. Listen to your body and adjust accordingly.

As an independent publisher, I don’t just write my masterpieces — I design them, too. So for the past two weeks I’ve been mastering InDesign to create the full-color paperback edition my 21-Day Plan.
